Tourists who will be driving in San José, Costa Rica... a driving law is being enforced that restricts certain license plates from being able to enter the capital without receiving a fine.
Costa Rica License Plate Rule is an old driving restriction that is now being enforced 100%!b(MISSING)y the Costa Rica Transito (Equivalent to the Highway Patrol in the US). The old restriction called "The license plate rule" is being enforce for three reasons:
1. To lower congestion in San Jose and surrounding cities
2. Higher gas prices and gas stations being congested during peak hours.
3. Lower the amount of pollution in the capital or at least minimize it.
If you are a tourist, be sure to check out the news article attached to this post to see the map and the hours of the enforcement. The rule is based on the last digit of your license plate, so be sure to check what your license plate number is on your rental car before driving into San José during the "enforcement hours".
