Are refugees from the Myanmar cyclone affecting tourism in northern Thailand?

I planning 5-7 days in northern Thailand, centered mainly around Chiang Mai. My wife and I are also planning on doing one of the hill tribe treks. But I had heard from a friend that all the displaced people from Myanmar are being sent that way. So I am wondering if I should just skip that portion of my trip and divert into China for a week. Anyone know more about this topic?

Thanks for any help!

Hello KA 😊

I moved this to the Travel news and discussion forum in the hopes that somebody can produce news links to answer your question.
I have not heard anything about people managing to get out of Burma since the cyclone. Aid workers seem to be surrounding Burma to try to persuade the Junta to let them in but I heard nothing about refugees flooding out.
