The Road Ahead
The first zig zag Possible, hardly even difficult! My bottom may have a slight difference of opion but who gives a .....
So we left the last town, down the main road 600m in 15 miles just to make a mountain out of the hill ahead of us for the day, and took her on. Oh yer mister. Well prepared, two meals in 4 hours the night before despite our less than closed systems. Stock up at the first supermarket type thing (first shop, really) I´ve been in in Peru and a quater to 6 start. Awesome. Slowly slowly. Down to the bridge and then up, up and well it was like that for most of the day.
Twice the climb of the previous day but so much easier. Expected, off the road, great views, astonished glances from the few drivers that did pass, shouts of delight from those shoeing cattle, horses, pigs or a mix up, across or down the hill. Fabulous. Stop every 450m (up) ish. Always a great spot, often able to admire the route we´ve come. 2+ kilometers into the sky! Can´t do that in too many places, estpesically when the low point is 1800m. Up towards the clouds,
that generally lifted just ahead of us to maintain the staggering view, sunshine but not the heat as on the way to the peechue. The last 300 to 400 meters was even along a ridge, seems much more sensible than endless zig zagging, even passed over the ridge at a local low point. Lovely roll down hill to be in small village by 5ish. Perfect. Great welcome by the kids, althought the race back up the hill (them on foot) to the only hostal was just pushing it! Have a look at the photos!
