Puno - floating islands - Uros

We were up early again this morning after getting in on the bus from Arequipa to go on boats to visit Uros, a floating reed island. There are aprox 1200 inhabitants on the Uros islands. It is kind of weird walking on the reeds as you sink some. The people were very freindly and had crafts for sale. We stayed for 45min and finished the visit with a ride to another island on a reed boat. Two women paddled this large reed boat that carried 14 of us visitors. We then went back on our boat and continued out to Taquile Island. This is a farming island and again the terracing so that they waste no land. The people here were very friendly and young boys walking around knitting with fine needdles soem very intricate patterned hats that they sell to visitors. I bought a nice knittied vest. We were at over 4000m on this island. Mom was sick to her stomach and not feeling well at all so she stayed on the boat. We had lunch at a small restaurant on the island and whenI asked for a bowl of soup to go for Mom, they carried it to her in a hot pot with bread without being asked. Very nice! We are now at our hotel and going to bed early tonight as we did not get much sleep last night as our room was above a busy noisy partying strret and we were up before 6am.
