Lake Titicaca!Lake Titicaca!Lake Titicaca!

Yes for those of you that havent heard of it, that is its real name!
Well this will probably be my last blog of the year 2007 and to be honest, its pretty hard to even think of it being so near xmas!

Since my last blog we have partied very hard in Cusco, to celebrate completing the inca trail, shocker I lost my watch as i was so hungover the next morning!!

We have travelled futher south to a town called Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Since arriving we had a tuc-tuc (bicycle/rickshaw style vehicle) race to the harbour!

Once we arrived we took a really really slow 3 hour boat ride to our first island...Taquile. There wasnt an awful lot too see there but the views of the Lake were awesome!! After that it was onwards to the island of Amantani. Here we met our tribal mothers that we would be staying with for the night. Ben and I had a lady called Vanita. She was very friendly and had a hubbie called Raul and 2 children, Janet and Ronaldo. The accommodation was very basic and it was really interesting to see how these people live. They dont have much but they are very kind. It is tradition that

Me and Ben had Mr Magoo as a driver! Needless to say we didnt win!
you wear one of their hats whilst you are with them, mine was bloody huge and made me look a right tit...much to everybody elses amusement. You can even buy them when you leave if you want. First stop was to play the locals at footy, at 4100 metres above sea level this was a bit bloody tricky to say the least and we lost by just one goal...gutted!

After that we ate at our family homes, the food was basic but you got the impression that these people dont have much to give...it was a humbling yet special experience.

Next our families dressed us up in ponchos and we went to the main hall and danced with the locals, it was really good fun as the girls in the group had to wear silly skirts and head gear!! Whilst dancing with my surrogate mum I literally couldnt stop smiling, it was a briliiant experience. This morning we waved goodbye to our mums and went to visit the Uros tribe. This is a tribe that live on floating reed islands in the middle off the shores of Lake Titicaca. You have to see it to believe it! they

literally build the island and then their homes on top of it....they even have televisions powered by solar panels!! Its all pretty surreal.

Well gang I hope you all have an awesome xmas...I will be mountain biking down the daeth road in Bolivia on xmas day, so no Queens speech, turkey or that bloated 5 oclock feeling for yours truly! Missing you all!!

Til 2008...probably!

P.S oh yeah for those of you wondering, I did buy the stupid looking hat.
