Wow we are doing a lot this trip! It's hard to keep up with the blogging.
So we start with a 9 hour overnight bus to Nazca. Not as comfy as the luxury bus, but not a local bus either. Our supposed VIP tickets got us the downstairs cabin, meals, blankets, etc but honestly the roads were windy and it felt like the bus was toppling over on each turn so none of us got any sleep. 6am arrival into Nazca and amazingly the hotel let us check in and get some zzzs. Not too many though as breakfast finished at 9 then we had to leave for our flight over the Nazca lines!
Tiny 12 seater plane and they explain it will be constant 45 degree banking so people on both sides can see. I am nervous - not just because these flights have a sketchy safety record but i do get quite travel sick. Anyway its a little scary at first but amazing! Well worth the $100 USD (i think you can shop around on price but our tour recommended Mobilair and they were great). Amazing views, some average photos but I loved it. We all felt
quite queasy afterwards so went for a walk to settle our stomachs then lunch. Lunch was great food, I had slow cooked baby goat. We ended up staying all afternoon drinking pitchers of sangria (to settle our stomachs of course) and didn't do much else in Nazca.
Early start for Pisco via the Nazca viewing tower and Huacachina oasis. Our ride for the day, an American muscle car! We settled in and had a great morning driving along enjoying the sights. Huacachina for lunch, a crazy little actual oasis in the middle of the desert. It was hot so we wandered then swam at the hotel we ate at. We all wished we could stay overnight but sadly had to keep going to Pisco.
I finally got my real pisco sour but we had another early morning approaching so we didn't do much else.
In the morning we took a boat trip to the Ballestas Islands, part of the Paracas national park. Lots of birds and sea lions. Tourists who had never seen sea lions before were going mental. Afterwards a 4 hour bus ride to Lima where we had a final night together before our tour
ended. I will miss those girls! I do love the lifelong friends you make on tour.
I've now changed hotels for my Amazon riverboat tour starting in the morning. No Internet for a week! So I'll have to fill you all in later.
Ive a feeling this one will be lower key as I'm the youngest person of 30, but we will see...
Adios!
