Two Marco Chefs
One from Peru, one from Australia... Marco - We arrived in Ollantaytambo (pronounced O-yan-tie-tambo) on Saturday at lunchtime and we headed straight for the hostel. Julie had picked the hostel, a little family run place called Andean Moon. The first sign that things weren´t right was the dog poo everywhere in the small lane way which turned me off. But Julie was very keen to continue with the booking. We got to the hostel and the room had no TV - disaster! I would have to entertain myself by talking to Julie! As we stayed a bit longer, we realised that the bed was very small and the toilet smelt...but there was worse to come. We were woken up three times in the night by crying babies, screaming kids and people coming home from a party at 2am. We got up the next morning and booked out and straight into another hostel down the road called Las Orquideas (The Orchids). Much nicer, better view, clean bathroom, etc. No comparison really...you win some, you lose some. And our new hostel was only $5 more.
Our second day saw us climb the ruins of Ollantaytambo...I met a boy on the way up and asked him to carry my
View of Ollantaytambo Mountains
Exhausted after climbing up the ruins bag for a few soles...it turns out his name was Marco Antonio also and that he worked at a restaurant in town as a chef! The paths on top of the mountain were quite scary at times...one slip and you´d be gone down the hill! We were very careful though and took our time to enjoy the view over the town and the valley.
We spent more time in town, climbing up the hill on the other side of town and also eating and drinking a fair bit. I discovered some Chilean red wine one night...I slept really well that night! After a couple of days of relaxing and taking it easy, it was time for Machu Picchu...see next blog 😊
