A strike in Cusco meant that Cynthias car was pelted with stones as she left the airport at Cusco on her journey to the hotel. All taxis were banned and no one was able to leave or enter Cusco. Including us who had tracked down a loco taxi driver who took up the challenge of taking us to Tipon. It was not to be. Every road out of Cusco was blocked with either boulders, people or rubbish. The advantage was that it allowed us to get a ticket to Macchu Picchu on one of the busiest weeks and see Macchu Picchu as it should be seen, with very few tourists!...Normally there are approximately 1000 visitors a day and the west side of the mountain is giving away at a rate of 1cm a month!!! The Peruvian government use Macchu Picchu as their major source of revenue so they really need to do more to protect it.
