Condor!Condor!Condor!

We waited around only about five minutes to see the condors. This picture however took me a bit longer to get!
When we arrived in Arequipa we booked a 2 day tour to Colca Canyon, the second deepest canyon in the world, in the hope of seeing some Andean Condors. In Arequipa itself there was not really too much, just a nice plaza and some surrounding volcanoes to look at.

We were picked up from our hotel the next morning to fins that a French school party were on the same tour, grrrrrr! The first day consisted of driving and urm... driving. We had a really old crappy bus and pretty much everything on the road was overtaking us. We were supposed to arrive in a village for lunch at 1.30 pm but didn't get there until 3.30 as the rench kids kept stopping to use the toilet (that's restroom for any Amercians reading ;P)

By the time we had lunch it was 4.30 and part of the tour the first day was to go for a 4 hour trek in the canyon. We couldn't see that happening now! Well it went ahead but we only walked for 2 hours but got to go over a cool rope bridge, in the dark!

The next day we got up early

How many condors can you spot? I see six then if you have read my previous blog maybe I'm not the person who should be saying how many there are!
(5.30am) to get to Condor Cross to see the Condor's take flight for the mountains. We got to see at least 15 condors. It was so amazing to see them floating right by you, they're so huge!

After our guide took us for a walk around the top of the canyon. Unfortunately we weren't at the deepest part though. As we were walking along there were these wasp like things but only bigger flying around us. Sometimes they would land on peoples legs. As they did our guide would grab them and when he caught two, would crush them together then bite off their heads and eat them, crazy guy! It wasn't the best tour we had done in South America, but it was great to see the Condors in teh wild.

Next we travelled to Lima where Matt met up with Valeria, the girl he met in Cusco. We all went out with her and her friends, Lucho and Talia, taking in a traditional meal of Ceviche (raw fish marinated in lemon juice), it was actually quite nice!
