Sarah and I stopped off in Puerto Lopez for a quick visit on our way to Montanita. Puerto López is a small fishing village set in an arched bay on the Pacific coast of Ecuador. We'd heard that the humpback whales were close and our chance of seeing them were very good, so as soon as we arrived and scoffed a breakfast, we were off to the beach to see what we could see. It didn't take long until we were on a boat and sailing out to spot the humpbacks. It was mating season and they weren't being shy. We got fairly close, enjoyed watching them and got a few photos before heading back to shore after a couple of hours. On the way back, we jumped in and went snorkelling for a while too where we saw sea turtles, sealions, and lots of birds!
