The plan was to sell Miriam's Car in Cuenca with the help of her Brother Santiago, so that involved a fairly substantial road trip but first we would stop in Babahoyo to pay a visit to Miriam's Mum and Aunt. Wild llamas were reintroduced to the park in the late 1990s. The park’s other animal inhabitants, such as the spectacled bear, puma, and tigrillo, are more elusive.

Fragments of Inca roads throughout the reserve link numerous tambos (ruins of waystations along the royal highway), which is said to have run through here all the way to the coast.
