Leaving CanadaLeaving CanadaLeaving Canada

At YVR in Richmond..it was raining. What a day to leave haha
Hello everyone! What a crazy week it has been! I have done so much in 7 days that my head is still spinning.

Miguel and I flew out from Vancouver at 8:30am on October 15th and arrived in Houston, Texas at 1:00pm. Our flight to Quito was delayed and we didn´t end up leaving Houston until 7:00pm. We finally touched down in Quito, which is the capital city of Ecuador, at 12:30am...just past midnight so we were a bit sketched out but we got to our hostel fine. We stayed at a place called The Chicago Hostel which was nice. It has a rooftop with a view of the city where we ate breakfast every morning. The rooms are nice too and it was only $7 per night.

On our first day, we wanted to check out the city a bit so we went exploring. People are NUTS when they´re driving..there is no courtesy for pedestrians haha..the cars really own the road and they pay no attention to the speed limits. It was also a bit tough because everybody speaks Spanish so I have to learn quickly. It´s really convenient to have Miguel because he knows enough to get

The plane was very midget friendly
us around and communicate with people. We ended up finding this huge Cathedral a few blocks from our hostel. It was incredible because we climbed all the way to the top and were able to step outside onto the upper ledge. It was freaky haha..nowhere in Canada would you be able to do that!

Quito is crazy because you can get a full meal of food with rice, veggies, fruit, and a meat for only $1.50. It´s called a fixed meal and you can find them if you look around. Everything is very cheap including transportation. You can take a 15min cab ride for $2. They also use American money here.

Later on that night we went to this area called ¨Mariscal¨ which is also known as ¨The new city.¨ It´s very tourist or ¨gringo¨ orientated. We went to this bar called ¨Shooters¨ which was VERY Canadian. There were Team Canada and Vancouver Canuck jerseys everywhere! It was dope. The owner is Ecuadorian but he lived in Vancouver for quite a while so when he found out we were from there he started giving us shots on the house!! But the absolute best thing about this place was

We ate breaky on the rooftop every morning. It had a nice view of the city
the towers of beer they have!! I hadn´t seen towers like that since the Central City days in Surrey with Burns, Kidwai, Niq, Noreen, Summer and the brown mile haha. So I instantly yelled ¨Tower on me!!¨ (it was only $10..which is actually expensive for Quito cause it´s in a gringo zone) but I didn´t care cause my eyes were the size of marbles when I saw that Golden tower haha. As you can see from the pics it got outa hand haha.

Day two we went to this area called ¨Teleferrico¨ which is a mountain that you can go up. A gondola takes you up to 4,100 meters above sea level. The air was CRAZY thin and Miguels heart was pumpin like a jack rabbit! I got excited and started running which was a mistake cause it left me gasping for air hahaha. But the view was phenomenal. We were higher than planes because we could see them flying in the distance. We got some incredible pictures. The best part is that it was only $4!!! What a deal haha.

Day Three we took a trip to Mitad del Mundo which is where the official equator is.

This was our view from the rooftop. In the distance you can see a giant angel statue that over looks the city ¨Bencenio¨
It was really windy but it was a weird feeling being in that exact spot. We got some good pics and some video which I´m trying to figure out how to put on here for everybody. I really like the pic of Miguel and I standing in two different hemispheres…crazy haha.

After that we decided to get the hell out of Quito because it was tough to handle the altitude and pollution. We then appropriately decided to head to the coast to hit the beach and enjoy the sun. We kept hearing people raving about this beautiful town called Canoa….so we jumped on a night bus and put on our flip-flops.

re: have you been
I have never been to Toronto but I know that in almost everywhere in Canada it is very pedestrian friendly. MUCH MORE than South America. If you´re going to Toronto and have more questions I have a good friend living there right now. Her name is Summer and her email address and MSN messenger is ¨summiner69@hotmail.com thanks for the comment...ciao
