At The Farm
Standing underneath an avacado tree! Well teaching is still pretty crazy!! I’m starting to get my kids to behave a little better. My eight grade class is tough because it is a really big class and there are about ten students that don’t listen to me at all! I don’t know what they are thinking when they think they can just get up and walk around the classroom or talk as much as they would like! I’ve tried doing some fun games with them this week and their behavior was terrible... I don’t even really care to talk about it!! Some reason they think that when we are doing games in class that it is recess time… I just don’t understand!! A friend of mine here wrote out some Spanish commands that I could yell at them! The thing is I don’t think it will work because I know they understand my English they just don’t listen! Maybe I need to get a little more stricter but I really hate having to be like that! It’s not fun for me and it’s not fun for them. When they can’t play games because of their behavior I just assign them a lot of work to do… that
Cafe
Coffee plant normally gets them quite, but I really wish I could have this class be more interactive but the kids just make it IMPOSSIBLE! I really don’t know what to do!! I really have never met a bunch of kids that are this disrespectful! A lot are nice but the majority just make the class a chore to teach!! I want to make my classes interactive, I want to be funny when I give my lectures but I can’t do any of that! As soon as I let my guards down the kids start miss behaving!! My ninth graders have gotten better! It’s a little easier since the class is smaller and I can pick out the trouble makers a little easier. I have had to take a few good walks with the students to the inspection office (Kind of like the principles office) but that has helped and they are getting better. Although again with this class I want to do games but when I do them nobody participates and the classroom is a total mess!! So I kind of have to take the boring lecture routine and wow!! Sometimes I can put myself to sleep! Some lectures I can
Orange tree
Got to eat some fresh oranges... pretty tasty!! act stuff out and make it a little more interesting for the class but the textbooks they have here are pretty bland! It’s hard to come up with some good ideas since I kind of jumped into the middle of this with no warning and it’s my first time ever teaching! My afternoon classes I enough though because the students come to learn and aren’t required to take the class like they are during the school day. I played a pretty fun game with one of my afternoon classes where we would throw a ball to each other asking and answering questions in English. The students where able to ask me questions in Spanish and I had to reply in Spanish! I think it was good though because it showed that hey I’m not super great at Spanish and they aren’t great at English, so it is okay to sound a little stupid when you try and speak a different language. I am really caring for these guys in the afternoon class because they respect me when I am teaching and I feel like I have gotten to know them well!! I only wish it could be that way with
ummmmm?
A giant leaf? my 8th and 9th graders! I only have one month left with them and then I’m done!! Thank GOODNESS!! I really can’t wait. I’ll get to do more afternoon classes which I enjoy a lot more 😊.
All the stuff I’ve done lately during my free time has been pretty exciting! The last two Saturdays in a row I have gone to farms up in the highlands. The first farm I went to we got to go pick avocados, yucca, oranges, and Bananas. That was cool cause for lunch we ate all this fresh food with fresh chicken too!! Killed right there on the spot. That was a first for me lol. The second farm we went to the fermented the juice from sugar cane to make beer so the guy that owned the farm went though the whole entire process of how he did it! We made some sugar cane juice and got to suck on some sugar cane. It basically tasted like sugar water… hmmm well figures lol. Then we also went over the process of how he made coffee and got to see some coffee plants!! It was pretty cool! The farms where good but definitely
Pedricio
He brings us everywhere! last Sunday when I went to Tortuga bay was just awesome!! The day was beautiful!! While we where there I saw my first Blue Footed Boobie… let me remind you this is a bird I’m talking about! Lol. I also stumbled upon eighty marine iguanas sunning themselves! That was cool but man did it STINK, lol. But the coolest of all was we got to see some sharks where we went snorkeling!! Cool but definitely a little scary… lol.
So thing are still going well I’ve been having fun even though teaching can kick me in the butt sometimes… Also Spanish is coming along slowly! Andrew, Gabe and I made a pact that we could only speak Spanish with each other! I think this will help us learn faster! It’s tough though because we all have the vocab of a small child but the things we need to express in words like stress, how we are doing and that type of stuff aren’t too indepth, but our Spanish is improving rapidly everyday!! When I think of how much I have learned in a month it is just crazy!! From not speaking at all to actually holding some conversations with
Yuca
Getting some yuca to eat for lunch people! I got a haircut the other day and that was such a good feeling because the hairdresser actually understood how I wanted my haircut! It was a pretty good feeling!!
So to make a long story short! I’m doing good here!!
