Galapagos -Santa Cruz
Mangroves at the landing stage We sailed in the afternoon - rather chilly and rough - one by one everyone vanished, mostly to lie down in their cabins.
Arrived in Santa Cruz - went for a meal where lobster was recommended by Fabricio - but it was off the menu. Nevertheless, a very pleasant restaurant and a change to be off the boat. The next day we went ashore for a visit to the Darwin Centre and the famous Lonesome George, who made an obliging appearance. Then walked back to town and out the other side to the glorious Tortuga Bay - then back again.
After a pleasant lunch back in town, Jude and I tried to indulge in a spot of shopping, thwarted by shops being shut till 3 pm., whilst the men stayed with their beers in a bar. Then a ride into the highlands to the tortoise farm, where we saw tortoises roaming in the wild, and even having a half hearted attempt to - um - get friendly, but perhaps having an audience put them off as they weren't very persistent.
Then back to the boat, dinner, and a short night nav. to the North of the island. Woke up
Galapagos -Santa Cruz
Darwin Centre - Lonesome George says hello to sunshine and brilliant blue sky at last.
Today's trail led up the ridge and back, round a lagoon where there were several brilliant pink flamingoes in the lagoon, resting immobile on one leg. As we wound our way up the scrubby hill, we spotted several huge land iguanas, hiding away in the scrub - fine specimans, a brilliant yellow colour.
Back to the boat, then we set sail for one of the most popular islands, Bartolome.
