The start of the reported 1200 steps to the Lost City

the shaman would walk down to meet the honoured guest escorted by an armed guard; and then all 3 would walk back up. the smaller steps on the left were for the guest with the shaman on the largest middle step

The settlement had its origin in the 7th century and remained inhabited by the Tairona people for 10 centuries until 1650 when they were mostly wiped out by the Spanish.

Apparently the Colombian president has to be blessed by the 4 indigenous chiefs before his inauguration, with the last blessing conducted by the Tairona chief on this same platform at the Lost City
