Santiago

Walked up the Santa Lucia volcanic outcrop in Centro to get the city pespective; could almost touch the Andes. Got my first immersion in pre Columbus history and archeology at the museum. Tasted in Maipu. Visited Pablo Naruda's house. With the locals, cheered for Chile in the Davis Cup.

Atacama

Four days in the highest and driest. Gripped by the scale of things: the flats stretching over the earth's curve guarded by the Andes. Toured, clambered, was scoured by wind driven salt sand, watched flamingos in the salt lake, experienced steam geysers at a -2deg dawn and 4300metres, bathed in 33deg mountain pools and waterfalls.

Having Fun?
So, the pre-retirement's going well then? Enjoying reading your antics - deeply envious as this winter's miserable. Just lining up the first sailing of the summer - a Coastal Skipper qual first, followed by a long weekend in Greece. Bring it on!
