Day 195 - Wednesday 2 April
Vina del Mar is only 15 mins away from Valparaiso but by the time we´d got up packed, had breakfast got there and found somewhere to stay it was already lunchtime. Theres a good beach here but unfortunately its cloudy, the first time its been cloudy since I arrived in Chile. Typical.
However as the Arsenal v Liverpool champions league game was starting soon I wasn´t that bothered. Russ however had to miss it and go looking around the shops instead. Oh dear oh dear. He finally returned when the game was in injury time of the 2nd half.
After a short rest we headed into the town center so I could have a look around and we could get dinner.
Its starting to get ridiculous now. Russ´girlfriend Pa, spotted a bag she liked on a market stall. We then stood there for just under 45 mins whilst she debated whether she should buy it or not. It only costs a bloody fiver. (In the end she bought it). I think even Russ is getting a bit sick of her but thats his problem. Not only does he have to carry all her bags but he has to tie her shoelaces, zip her coat for her and even put her socks on her feet. Its like traveling with a five year old. Not something I´d intended when I set off, so I think it´ll only be a few days before I go solo. Although extremely beautiful now I remember why i´d left the Asian girls behind. They´re great in the short term but long term they´ll do your head in. It´s just they´re used to totally different lifestyles to western girls.
Finally we got something to eat, then stopped off at a bar for a drink. As it was quiet in the center of town I proposed we move back towards where we were staying. It seems to be the student part of town and i´d spotted a lot of cheap looking bars there. After all students don´t go into city center bars in the week its too expensive. My hunch was right and it was far busier.
It started to get quieter about 12 so I asked the locals if there was a good place to carry on. They told me cafe Journal just around the corner and conveniently its only 3 doors down from where were staying. So in we went. It was a good place and all the music was in english the kind of stuff you hear on a night out back home. The only downside was that there wasn´t that many good looking girls. About 2am Russ and Pa left but as it was actually getting busier I decided to stick around.
A short while later I began making eye contact with a good looking girl and she started moving towards me. I briefly said hello before she said she needed the bathroom. Whilst she was away a bloke sitting on a table nearby came up to me and asked me where I was from. When I said England he insisted I join him and his friends for a drink. (It happens everywhere we go, the Chileans are very friendly as soon as they find out im english everybody wants me to join them for a drink or show me around town). Not wanting to miss my chance with the girl i´d just met I said I needed the bathroom. Unfortunately he said he did as well and followed me in. Inside I was in the middle of having a wee when in patchy english he said he´d been watching me all night, loves me and would I like a blowjob. I was a bit taken by surprise and noticed 4 of his mates were blocking the doorway, so I pretended I couldn´t understand his english whilst I stalled for time. Its a busy club and pretty soon someone else is going to need the loo. A few seconds later 2 blokes did so I quickly said no I like girls and pushed my way out. I then legged it from the club. It meant I had to leave the girl i´ve just met behind but I value my ass far too much.
Day 196 - Thursday 3 April
Tonight were taking the overnight bus to Pucon but in order to do so first we need to go back to Santiago. Russ and Pa wanted to go clothes shopping in Santiago so took an early bus but as I have no desire to buy any new clothes (I have no room in my bag and they´ll only get ruined), and i´d also had a late night last night i´m going to stay in town and get a bus this evening. Its only 2 hours to Santiago so I can still easily make the night bus at 10pm.
With the sun being back out I took a stroll around the centre of town and then the beach. Unfortunately I got a bit disorientated and it took me about 2 hours to find my way back into town and bus station. I only made it with a minute to spare and my feet are sore.
On the bus I got talking to a Chilean who was born in America and lived there for 10 years before his family moved back to Chile. He told me that apparently although I look different I could pass for a chilean . My skins dark enough and there are even some chileans with blonde hair too. So I guess that explains why the local people all think i´m one of them until I speak.
At around 8pm I arrived back in Santiago where I had to sit around the bus station until my bus to Pucon left at 10pm (Unfortunately Pameliita never did return my calls so I might as well carry on with my travels).
