Edit Blog Post
It's been a busy week with school and such. But the doesn't mean that the adventures stop there. In fact, quite the opposite, hence, instead of blogging, I've been adventuring. Sorry for the lack of updates. So here we go!
La Moneda. La Moneda is the home of the President of Chile. We went on die de los paros, day of the strikes, so so say the least, the Moneda was extra protected. Our ticket in was our passports. Carabineros were aplenty. We got in and saw the buildings and the interior. As cool as it was seeing the priceless artifacts in La Moneda, it was discouraging to see chandeliers made of pure silver and diamonds when there and countless people starving in Chile and so many more poor. Chile remains the most unequal country economically in the most economically unequal continent.
On a more fun note, I caught a video of the changing of the guard at La Moneda. I'll upload it! 😊
Correction, I guess TravelBlog won't let me upload videos 😞
Cartagena, San Antonio y Las Cruzes. We headed over to Cartagena for the weekend to do some cultural exploring outside of
Santiago. We tried to meet Nicanor Parra, famous Chilean writer and brother of Violeta Parra, but to our disappointment, "El no recibe gente", or, Nicanor is not accepting guests. We met Esther, a lady on the bus who offered to help us meet Gustavo Frias, another famous Chilean writer. We went over to her house and she took us to meet Gustavo, who accepted us graciously and showed us around the city for about 3 hours. Later, Esther invited us over, and to our surprise, they fed us. Very well. They had a barbecue and even bought more food just for us. They served us first and served us best. Amazing for the fact that this was just for 5 strangers they just met on a bus. Chilean hospitality is certainly unmatched.
Just a shout out to us that went, it was me, Eric, Aberlardo, Kabria and Jessica.
Gloria and Some pretty glorious food.
Gloria is a Chilean film which was some Spanish awards. That night, Jackie, Johanna and I headed over to watch the movie. I can't comment too much as to not spoil the movie, but I thought it was good and for an
entire film in Spanish, I understood at least 85%!o(MISSING)f what was said. After, we went to Bellavista to walk around for a while. We bought some traditional Chliean street food, cheap, but delicious.
Vineyard.
We went to a vineyard for Concha y Toro today. It was just a normal vineyard, so there isn't really much to tell about. Besides the fact that we (well I think we, I for sure) had some amazing wine, possibly the best white wine I've ever tasted. And we got a free souvenir glass out of it. And I bought a bottle of wine too. It was pretty cool.
So of course there's been more going on this week, but there's just way too much to write about and let's be real, you're reading this for leisure, not to read an essay.
So till next time.
Saludos desde Chile,
Conor
