punta Arenas to Ushuaia

Thanks Richard for your wishes, we got the honking tail winds AND the sunshine. Fully loaded bikes, gravel roads and we churned out 80km´s on day one. The legend of the infamous Patagonian winds didn´t disappoint us, thankfully for the past 3 days they have been our friend. We fear the day they turn on us! The barren pampas seemed to stretch off as far as the eye can see, with uninterrupted views due to the harshness of the environment. One surviving macropcarpa let us know the prevailing wind was from the west.
Amongst the sheep, the guanaco (elegant llama) and pink flamingos gave us a good excuse to stop (and have another siesta!).

We are glad we chose to cycle tour Patagonia in the summer. An inch of fluffy white snow welcomed us as we arose from our tents to Penny´s porridge, laced with Dulce De Leche. Camped in no man´s land as the Argentine and Chilean border posts are 15km´s apart due to inability to reach amicable agreement on exact border location.

ARGENTINA! Greeted us with 75cent empanadas (devine) and the Atlantic Ocean. Hey Aggie maybe we should have sorted that chain rubbing in top gear as that afternoon saw 80km´s flying towards Rio Grande.

After braving the ferocious winds and hail we are enjoying the luxury of hot showers and local decadent Panaderia (bakery).
PS: Graham, some of us should have heeded your gear list a little more closely and packed a hanky, two colds present amongst the team.

Vamos Chicas!!!!!
We were checking your blog daily with emma and are glad to see-read you are safe and sound, apart from the minor mechanical problems and colds. So, I guess you are somewhere between Rio Grande and Ushuaia, eh? I was checking the weather just now and it seems that Tierra del Fuego will have W/NW 15/25 Knots, gusting 30 and 2.5CDeg....I love spring time down here! So get lots of Alfajores y Dulce de Leche ...... Chaooooo
