My playground
One of the non recommended lakes in the district. My favorite! How big is Chile? Before this trip I had an idea that it was skinny and long with no real sense of size other than it was not too big. In actuality it is huge! I ended my last post saying that there were 2 volcanoes just outside my hostel and around the corner. That is not entirely true, sorry! There are actually 4 volcanoes. Before we left we had a beautiful sunset view of all four of them at once. If the view was not so expansive you would have an epic picture to enjoy. Now onto stories of the rental car and the journey around the lake district.
We figured the best way to see the lake district without spending copious amounts of time would be to rent a car. Renting a car makes sense because you can see a lot and stop where you want. Also, renting and driving a car would be its own adventure. To add to the excitement the car's were manual (yes cars is in its plural form for reasons I will soon get to). I do not have a large experience with manuals and Dylan had his license revoked so he has
not driven a car in a long time. This sounds like the beginning of a comedy, tragedy, and adventure all in one. Which it was! In addition to the wonderful experience of renting and driving a car, the lake district was phenomenally beautiful and a natural playground that is after my heart.
Car 1 was a small economical car. This was a good car that brought both of us back into the swing of driving manual, driving slow, and then eventually driving fast and off road. The day was a never ending scene of beauty. One moment you have a great view of the lake and a volcano. The next moment you see rolling green hills with farms and mountains. The next moment you have dense trees and waterfalls. I have never said wow so many times in my life.
We attempted to see a famous lake in the region with car 1 and found that the road was not paved. This fun little off road session ended with us nose diving into a deep road of sand. Car 1 was not very proficient and we were nicely stuck. Luckily Dylan has the leg strength and I have

Just an average site on the roads along the lake district. the extraordinary expertise behind the wheel to escape from our sand trap. This little mishap left us a little worried about the future roads. A little change of cars helped that.
Car 2 was a 4 wheel drive pickup truck where only one of the wheels worked. The 4 wheel drive was a lie/mistake by the company and I didnĀ“t even know cars existed where only one wheel worked. At least we gained clearance. The sand road would soon be ours. Later on we ended up passing the sand road with a lot of clearance and a lot of speed. I posted a video of the return trip that was a lot more tame than the first attempt with car 1 and car2.
Car 2 also took us to Chiloe island. To get to this island we needed to use a ferry. Okay this may sound normal but picture yourself driving a car onto a boat and then boating around. Very strange for a land locked Utah man. On Chiloe island we saw a good portion of the beautiful landscape and also Chiloe national park. The national park was deserted like everything else. We explored one path that

Dylan right after we escaped the grips of the sand. It may not look too difficult but with the car we were in it was. took us into a very very dense temperate forest. The ground would give inches under your feet. I have never been in such a dense forest and it is a phenomenal experience that was a little mystic and a little scary. Reminded me of a scene from a horror movie where a bug the size of you comes charging. Hollywood movies and there accurate portrails of reality always causing problems.
Driving around the lake district at this time of year was completely desolate. We would go hours without ever seeing anyone. It is winter here but it feels extremely nice to me. My favorite part of the lake district was one specific lake that was not highly recommended. We chose it because it was located between two national parks. This lakeside was my playground! There were large fallen trees everywhere along with large beautiful rocks. We spent a long portion of the day just playing around jumping from large stump to rock to tree and back to another tree. Also attempting some spiderman like moves up some rock faces. Balancing beams, wooden bulls, swinging on stumps, and hand stands all bringing me back to my youth and my happy

This is me clawing through the dense forest. place. Just to remind you, this place was beside a like, surrounded by high mountains and beautiful views. So fun, so good, and so beautiful!
I absolutely loved the lake district and wish I could see more of it. Time is limited and our agenda is vast. It was time to move on and experience some Pacific coast. More good things to come.
