HELLO EVERYONE!!!!! Boy do i miss you guys but not much could beat this weekend!!
Friday morning in class it was decided that I was going along to Chillan to go snowboardingin the ANDES MOUNTAINS!!! We left around 5:00 on our first weekend trip. Little did we know what was instore for us!! The bus was only about an hour, was very comfy, and cost all of $2. Our arrangements had been made but we didnt know what to expect when we arrived. Well we ended up staying in the dorms of a college in town... well it was a christian school, they were a vegatarians, and it was a very important week of prayer and celebration. After putting our bags in our rooms we went to their caffeteria where we learned that this Friday was a day they did no work, etc. and there was a very special church service... out of polietness we ended up going to the church service rather then going out the bars and discos. As we walked up the stairs one of the boys i went with turned to me and said... I thought we were going to the bars, how did we end up
in church??? It was fantastic and very interesting. We meet a guy named Danny and he knew english very well so he translated the entire service for us into english. Afterwards we meet some of the nicest people! With out the help of all these people we would never have made it to the mountains the next day without them!! The next day... WAS A COMPLETELY NEW ADVENTURE!!!!!
We woke up at 6:00 and Jorge brought us into town to catch the bus to the Mountains (about an hour trip). The ride up was gorgeous and the sun was rising over the mountains! We were warned that the bus on brought us so far and we would have to figure out how to get the rest of the way up the mountain. We rented our snowboards from a little shop then proceeded to try and hitch hike our way up the mountain with rest of the snowboarders. A local ended up helping us flag down a truck and we all piled into the back (very uncomfortably if i may say so!) Dont worry mom it was safe(mostly!) everyone was going to the mountain.. After FINALLY arriving at the hills
we began our treck up the lifts and WOW did the go on forever!!!!! The view from the top was AMAZING!! First of all other then in an airplane i have never been so high!!!!!!!! It was soooo warm out up there! We put sunscreen on but i didnt wear sunglasses and i BURNT MY EYEBALLS!!! yess my eyeballs.... DONT WORRY I HAVE PICTURES! They were super red but if you held them open you could see a red line through the middle... very sweet but probably not very safe.. These runs were the sweetest and longest runs i have ever seen! Quite a leap from powder ridge thats for sure! Well we all survived and have some fantastic pictures of our trip! By the time we had to leave we were professional hitch hikers and caught a ride with a couple in the back of their truck with a hilarious guy from brazil, they brought us part of the way were we hopped into a different truck that brought us to the rental shop. Then finally we got on the bus and headed back to Chillan were we had to yet again find another bus to bring us back
to our rooms.. I think i was almost more tired from trying to get to and back from the mountain then i was from actually snowboarding!! After a LONG shower we ended up going to a house with some of the people we met at the church the day before. It was kind of a family gathering because one of the girls was leaving for Norway. It was really sweet to see how they all interacted together at family gatherings!! We were all walking back to the campus at about 12:30 were we found ourselves in the middle of illegal car races that take place every saturday infront of the school.
Cars were just beginning to line up on the sides of the road and we thought it was hilarious because most of these cars were TOTAL pieces of crap! We were kinda hanging around to watch it but then someone yelled police and everyone got into their cars REAL quick and speed off which made it even more funny! We were completely and udderly exausted from our day and ended up sleeping for like 13 hours! Find our buses the next night to concepcion was quite ridiculous and frustrating
but WE MADE IT!!! I miss you all very much and wish i could say more BUT I WILL HAVE PICTURES SOON!! ps.... I dont think words can explain how badly i miss some things from the US, like milk!!!!!!!!! and hot showers!! (yea my friends and fam too!) WELL TIL NEXT TIME!!!!! chao
