Hi everybody again, after our incredible experience in Machupichu we decided to move forward and we arrived in Arequipa (South of Peru and close to Chile) and it was there where Lola 7 came into our lifes (our new guitar and new travel mate). After Arequipa we crossed the border passing trough Tacna and we arrived in Arica (the firt Chilean city in the north) where we enjoyed the pacific ocean surrounded by loads of jellyfishes. That same night we took a bus towards San Pedro de Atacama (a beautifull touristic village in the middle of the Atacama dessert) where we camped and where Lola 7 came very handy since thanks to her we ended partying and singing with all the Chilean youth of the campsite and with whom we had a great, great time during the two days that we spent in San Pedro. With a bit of sadness we decided to move forward to Santiago following the route that our Chilean friends told us. And it was in this way that we started our hitchhiking adventure. It was in Calama (an hour away from San Pedro) where Martin (a truck driver)
took us and after driving 700 km across the desertic north chilean landscape with him, he dropped us in Flamenco beach. After staying the night in a campsite we woke up and after a very brief wait Ramirez´s truck took us. Ramirez was a determined anti Pinochet person who gave us a very interesting Chilean history lesson during the 500 km of travel up to La Serena (500 km away from Santiago) though after 7 hours talking non stop he left without questions to Ivan. After staying the evening in La Serena and quite happy with our hitchhiking experience we decided to continue with it overnight and it was in this way that we met Robin, a pro Pinochetist who did´t need to use his hands for driving his truck since his hughe belly was more than enough for doing so. We don´t know if it was the Chilean night heat or OUR 4 bags of crisps that he ate, but he felt quite sleepy after 3 hours driving and we ahd to stop in a petrol station somewhere along the panamerican highway. After having to wait for much longer than first thought and after an incredible effort to keep
him awake we arrived in Santiago and went to Blanca´s house (a friend of Xabi, Aimar´s brother) where after 7 days of an intense adventure we found again the home sweet home feeling.
