Diana & Me
Observing a very serious card game! Hi (cannot even attempt hello and goodbye in Brazilian portuguese- didn´t actually think it could be so different to spanish).
Anyway as I said in the last blog we caught the only international bus leaving Montevideo last Thursday week, and we ended up on route to Florianapolis, the capital of Santa Catarina state in southern Brazil. It was a 24 hour journey so we had plenty of time to chat to our fellow passengers and luckily for us we ended up meeting Gustavo and Diana Lorenzo, an Argentinian couple who had moved to Florianapolis with their family almost 20 years ago. Diana was quite surprised that we had not reserved anywhere to stay in Florianapolis, so at this point they decided to adopt us along with a Dutch couple (Pieter and Merel) who were equally clueless about where they were staying in Florianapolis. A couple of phone calls later Diana had arranged for her son, Gustavo junior, and son-in-law to collect us from the bus station and take us to their house. This was the start of the four of us being treated like royalty for the next 5 days. It´s difficult to describe the Lorenzos home- basically on their

Halloween festivities in the pizzeria land they have their own house, Gustavo junior has a house and his sister Inez also has a house. The original house on the site was also maintained and this was where we stayed. Along with all the houses Gustavo and Diana have the award winning Juan de Barro restaurant and Gustavo Jnr has his own excellent pizzeria. So anyway Gustavo junior became our guide for our time in Florianapolis- he drove us around the island to visit the different beaches and basically everywhere else we wanted to go. All this while he also had some friends visiting from Curitiba- Alessandro and Giselle. When we weren´t being chauffered around we were eating and drinking the best of food and drink either in the restaurant or the pizzeria. The hospitality of the whole family was unbelievable. I will attach some pictures which will hopefully show how well we were treated. Alessandro and Giselle are professional Tango dancers so we got to see a few performances which were amazing- much better than the touristy stuff we saw in Buenos Aires. After a few great nights out and lazy days on the beaches it was time to move on. Pieter acquired so many

Being treated to a fantastic meal in the Juan de Barro restaurant nicknames over the couple of days he didn´t quite know what to answer to- Pieter, Pete, Chicken, Rooster... We were all sad to be leaving but time is running out in South America. Thanks to Alessandro and Giselle for the lift to Curitiba and the Tango lesson- not sure I have enough co-ordination for it though!
