"At the Copa, Copacabana, there´s music and dancing...... this is the wrong song for this location" (and it must be sang in tune). It took us 3 days to get that damm song out of our heads!!
Arrived in Rio after a 6 hour, very comfortable bus journey from San Paulo, cost e25 and it was more comfortable than business class and defo no comparison to Ryanair.
We were booked into the Stone of a Beach Hostel (and that when it all kicked off), hostel is two blocks from the Copacabana beach.
Apparently Ipanema beach is the place where the beautiful people are but we found everything expensive and the beach was overcrowed, nothing worse than a thong (stuck in a fat ass) in the face when trying to sunbathe!! Seriously that was it, nothing to do with the good looking people there.
We based ourselves in Cópacabana cause we could play hurling on the beach with the Kerry lads we met in the hostel, great way to attract attenion from the locals.
Now what could be more important then changing a milk bottle coloured body to a beautiful sun kissed colour, I tell you thats easy, the
Copacabana Beach
Opposite end of the beach night life, in Rio style. Lapa is where its at, street parties and nightclubs all over the place, dont even need to go into a club, possibly more fun on the street but be cautious.
To clear our consious about being such beach bums and alcoholics, we thought we should go see some sights. We got our hostel possie together and got a tour of Christ the Redeemer (save me jebus), the Maracana football stadium, the Sambódromo and some church, pictures are attached. We also went to Sugar Loaf at sunset which is well worth a visit and Neylon the adventurer went hangliding for 15 mins!!
But of course being in Brazil we had to go see a football match between Flamengo and International , Flamengo won 2-1, great atomshpere , lots of flares, defo go to see one if you can.
All is all we spent 7 nights, instead of the original 4 planned, Definitely Rio is a must.
