People of Brazil
We came across a museum which was showcasing photography of some of the indigenous tribes throughout the Amazon. We are in Belem right now, a city in the north of Brazil where the Amazon meets the ocean (sort of, I think, not sure for sure though because geography has never been my strong point, but that is what it looks like on the map).
We leave tonight at 6pm for our trip through the Amazon River up to Manaus. The trip is supposed to take 5 days and we are taking one of the boats the locals would take. It carries about 230 people and the mode of sleep is "a la hammock" on the deck with all the other people. It should be... interesting. This is one of Trevor's dreams come true, when we first talked about travelling, a ride down the Amazon was one of the first things on the table! The heat in Belem is the worst so far in Brazil; it has something to do with the equator being so close (I think it is only about 100 miles away?). This morning we still ventured out to find our hammocks in the market (65 R for two, not sure if we have hit a deal or not), and also saw a world famous fish
Man of Canada
Trevor wandering throughout exhibition market. It smelt rather... fishy. We had lunch there (it was slightly intimidating to choose meat from a place so unfamiliar, but we are learning), picked up some fruit from the trip, and secured a few rolls of toilet paper. For the boat, we know to expect three square meals a day: rice, beans, and some sort of meat. Wish us luck!
We will post when we get to the other side!
Cheers,
Trevor and Kristena

yay! Toilet paper!
Sounds like that will be an experience for sure! I am sure you will be really close to someone after those 5 days - and in more ways that 1 hopefully :)
