Bus to Bonito
Sunset on the bus to Bonito. We got into Bonito too late to do much on the first night. So after purchasing some new thongs and buying some water we headed back to the hostel for an early night. It turns out that this was our first alcohol free day of the trip. Probably my first day not having a beer in quite a while. Damn England.
Once we managed to drag our assess out of bed we were determined to get the most out of Bonito. So we headed downtown to one of the many tourist offices to see what we could book for the day. It turns out that we couldn't book too much but the biggest problem was that anything we wanted to book costs and arm and a leg. Since being in Brazil I've been surprised by the cost of travelling the country. Far more than you would imagine from a South American country. So we decided that we would have to do the cheap option. Which was to grab a bike ride seven kilometres out of town to the Balneario Municipal. Basically this is a part of the same river system that you pay an arm and a leg to snorkel
Balneario Municipal
Was a great place to spend the day. down which has been made into a public swimming area. Great news is that it worked a treat. Clinton and I wasted away the day swimming with fish is clear waters in between kicking back having a meal and a few beers. Clinton in the mood to try something different went for the Caiman. Which to be said tasted pretty darn good. After riding back into town my memory draws a blank. I'm sure the night went something like we had beers and I went to bed. But your guess is as good as mine. Forster killed some time playing chess with a guy called Trek Thunder Kelly (I kid you not google him).
Having booked a tour of the blue lake cave the previous day we were up early and eager to go on our tour. Sadly this day turned in to what I would like to refer as the day of waiting. Turns out I could have stayed in bed longer and not rushed my ass when packing. Our lift out to the cave was running a bit late. After being told he would be there in three minutes and waiting for twenty we were told we
Fish
The fish that we swam with. Was cold but good. would be leaving at 10:30 and hour and a half after we were meant to leave. So after sitting round on the slow as shit internet and writing a few emails for an hour and a half we were on our way. Once we arrived we were given our group number and sat down for a bit more waiting. Finally I was out turn to go see the cave. So we kitted ourselves up with sweet hairnets and crash hats and headed down. The tour takes maybe half and hour I forget exactly how long. It's a bit hard to describe the cave with my stunningly inept English skills. But I will say that it's pretty cool. Basically at the bottom of the cave is a large blue lake. The kind of blue that makes you think that a truck full of blue food colouring fell down there. I'm sure there's a reason it's so blue. But the guide only spoke Portuguese so I had to make do with making up my own reasons. The foremost being that it was the site of a large smurf massacre.
After heading back to the hostel and doing some more waiting we
Toucan morning.
Toucan outside the room in the morning. made ready for our journey (read as bought beer) and made our way to the bus station. We got on the first of four buses we would need to take to get to Puerto Iguazu and Argentina and settled in for the long ride. Our first bus got us to the lovely town of Dourados. We sat on our ass bought more beer and waited again this time for three hours (or was it four I forget) for our next bus that would take us to the world famous Cascavel. Luckily we got to Cascavel at a decent hour and were able to get on a bus to Foz do Iguacu within fifteen minutes. Finally we were near the waterfalls that we had been waiting to see for so long. But being the day of waiting there was a bit more to do before getting where we wanted to be. After finding the correct bus to Puerto Iguazu we headed for the Argentine border. Here we would get off the bus to get our Brazil exit stamp. After spending a whole thirty seconds getting the stamp we were left to sit at the border and wait for the next bus
Blue Lake Cave
Entering the cave. to come along. So after waiting what seemed a decade and filling in a Brazilian tourism survey we got on the bus and officially left Brazil and headed in Argentina.
