Manaus heralded our arrival by scorching us alive, the heat being so oppressive we were incredibly relieved to discover that our room had air-conditioning. This is the house of the family we visited.

Each banana tree will only produce one batch of bananas.

Cutting the bark makes rubber milk flow, which then hardens to form rubber.

Manioc, produced from the roots of manioc trees, is the staple food in the amazon. Poison has to be extracted and then it is cooked in huge pans. The process takes all day and happens maybe once a month.
