Last Party in cusco
Eric from belgium,Niamh from galway, Dave from Dublin, and Meave from Galway Monday the 21st July
Last night out in cusco. Myself Oscar and Steve met up with a few of the irish and the Galway girls, Meave and Niamh and went crazy. Cusco is a dangerous place but a great place. Party central. I love it and miss it now actually.
Tuesday the 22nd
Hungover. Went back to jacks for a european style breakfast. The food here in peru and bolivia has been lovely but it is nice to have something more familiar every so often. Jacks in cusco is just the spot. After breakfast which was about 2pm took another walk around the town to say my goodbyes to the different squares. In san Blaz a smaller quiter square there were artists working on sculptures so i watched them for a whilem then went back to the hostel to get my bags.
Myself Steve Oscar Meave and Naimh headed for the bus station at about 9. Got on the over night bus at 10. Trying to sleep was a nightmare as the bus was freezing. Never getting on a bus here again without my sleeping bag.
Wednesday the 23rd
Arrived in Puno near the bolivian border
at 5 30am where we had to wait 2 hours for our onward bus. Had some tea and as the sun rose we got our first glimpse of Lake Titicaca one of the highest navigable lakes in the world. The second bus was warmer so i slept a bit but we had to get off at the border and walk across the border into bolivia. Usual formalities, no problems, laughed at the yanks who have to buy a visa. In bolivia we got a bus (hiace van more like) a further ten minutes to a town called Copacabana on the shore of lake titicaca. Its a quiet town, just what i needed after partying too much in cusco. There is a beach front which is a bit cheesy, it full of pedal boats with swans heads. Did a bit of shopping sat in a few cafes, lay in the hammock at the hostel, nothing too exciting. That night we watched some guys play something i would call epeliptic jazz. Keyboard, bass guitar and clarinet. Crazy but entertaining. Then had an early night.
Thursday the 24th .
Put on the trekking shoes and trekked for about three hours to another
Galway Girls
Niamh and Meave town on the shore of the lake. There we tooh a boat to an island on the lake called Isla del Sol (the island of the sun) where the incas beloeve the sun was born. Its easy to see why, the sun rises over the snow capped andes and the lake in the morning and sets over the still lake on the evening. The others had enough walking in the morning and decided to chill but i took another three hour walk around the island. Amazing to see the way people farm here. The island is quite hilly and there is no water up top despite the fact that all the villages are on the top. Solution:- use donkeys to bring the water up from the lake. There were donkeys everywhere. This is one of the most beautiful places i have ever been. The photos do not do it justice.
That night the five of us went to a little pizzeria. Were were the only ones there and the woman who worked there treated us like her children. I loved it. The pizzas were excellent, and the wine went down nicely. We played some cards and relaxed the night
On the road again
Trekking beside lake titicaca away watching lightning flashing over the andes in the distance while the sky above us was crystal clear with starts and the moon. Again another early night was in store and thoroughly enjoyed.
Friday the 25th
Up early, walked down to the beach and bargained with some cowboy to take us to the mainland in his rickety wooden boat. It didnt sink thank the lord. Went for some breakfast and then bought our bus tickets to la paz.
Got to La Paz that evening about 5. When you first see it it takes your breath away as its is set down in a valley and you approach it from above. Lapaz is crazy. Loads of people and cars. Street sellers everywhere. Crazy crazy crazy. I was over whelmed straight away. We found an english style curry house for dinner and then went to the hostel bar where we met a complete tool from galway who started insulting us and especially the girls and telling me about how he left ireland cause he didnt like irish girls. Proof that not all irish people are not sound. He needs a good kick up the hole and might get it tonight
if he comes near me. Had a good night out in a club called Orange. I think the five of us together are a bit dangerous. Might be better for us all and especially our livers if we soon go our seperate ways. But i am never really one to pass up a party.
Saturday the 26th
This morning and afternoon untill about 3pm Steve was still drunk from the night before. Bloody auzzies eh. He kept us laughing all morning. Took a stroll around La Paz and there was some festival on the main street. A parade of dancers and music went on for about 5 hours. Again, Lapaz one word....Crazy. The women here wear long skirts but no knickers apparently. They just stop in the middle of the street, go on their hunkers and piss right in front of you......... CRAZY... and not very attractive. The parade was fun and afterwards we went to a museum of musical instruments which i loved.
Easy night. Went to see batman in the cinema. brilliant
Sunday the 27th
Walked around the city for a while. Went and saw a witches market where they sold dried Lamas fetuses. Lovely.
Would have bought one only for i couldnt find a use for it. After lunch in a sandwich shop went to a cafe to get desert.Got apple tart butr its just noit as nice as my mammys. Then went to a park on a hill with nice views of the city to take some photos. Then went to a museum about the coca leaf. Very interesting. I now know how to make cocaine.....
After all this we had an irish coffee in a cafe. More whiskey than coffee. Im now half steamed and its only 8. big night tonight
