ok so had my final day of the trek quite a while ago now. macchu picchu is an amazing place, it cant really be decribed. had a hard 6 hours slog around there anyway. turned up at about 6 and did the guided tour then had a few hours to explore. there are a few treks you can do to get some great views of macchu picchu and the one i did first was to climb the nearby mountain waynapicchu. because i wanted to get around to see a lot more i managed to completely obliterate the suggested time it takes to climb, supposed to be an hour to the top and an hour back down/ managed to get there and back with a break for breakfast at the top in an hour and 25 mins! pretty tiring though! then i did another half hour round to see the inca bridge an finally up to the sun gate in half the suggested time. once i got on the bus i was asleep in an instant!!
after getting back to cusco i booked my bus to la paz but had a day spare so decided to do some quad biking in
the mountains surrounding the city. was a great laugh. did a good mix of following a track and then just tearing about in open spaces. at one stage me and this guy were tearing around this pond. we both went over the same jump but i'm glad he went first because he ended up in the middle of the pond, smoke pouring from his engine!! i did however roll my quad off of a small cliff. only 3 metres or so but thats high enough if you are having a quad bike drop on top of you! basically what happened is that the road we were going down had some kind of maintenance going on below ground and rather than leaving a passage the builders decided to pile up the gravel to take up the rest of the road. the only route was over the top. as i was going over the uncompacted gravel gave way on the left side and down i went shortly followed by a huge quad bike to the ribs! came out unscathed though so its all good!!
bus to la paz was long and boring, bit of a hassle crossing the boarder in to
bolivia but nothing too bad.
so got to la paz and did a trip to lake titticaca. its fookin huge! had a trip to the isla del sol which is believed to be the birthplace of the sun and the first inca king and queen. sounds perfectly logical to me!
the following day was the start of the two of the best days so far! did a bike ride down the worlds most dangerous road. it drops 3500m in just 64km. and its noty some casual bike ride: you go down fast and hard! had a quality full suspension bike though and managed to not stack it or fall of the edge which generally has drops of about 300 metres. absolutely awesome ride. it was raining so the views were spolied a bit but to be honest i didnt do it for the scenery! the rain actually made it more fun, splashing through big puddles and really letting the back wheel slide out. awesome! i wanna do it again!
stayed at a lodge in the mountains for the night which was pretty cool and did really good food. following morning we got up early and went on a short trek through the jungle. well through the jungle and then up a river. we were wading chest deep, climbing up through rapids and up to a waterfall at the end. it was class. after that we piled into the van and set off down to the coroico river for some rafting. well i mainly did kayaking actually which was actually a lot better than the raft, you just feel the rapids a lot more plus you have more control and have to work harder. it was superb. me and the guide were the only two out of the group not to capsise in the kayaks as well....natural talent baby hahaha!
once the rafting was done we went to see another waterfall, much bigger and with some serious force to it. so naturally we climbed round behind it, where you could see almost nothing because of the spray in your face, and then dived through it. only lasts a second but gives a massive rush.
so now i'm back in la paz chilling out for the day and working out where i'm off to next. think it will be off to the salt flats in the south and then into chile.
well i guess thats about it for now
catch you later!!
