Happy Thanksgiving!
Nancy makes a short speech. Happy Thanksgiving!
Actually, being Brits, we didn't know what
Thanksgiving was all about. We are thankful to Wikipedia for what we now know and were surprised to learn that in Canada it is celebrated almost two months earlier.
Kat, one of our American friends and fellow English teachers, invited us up to Vaqueros, about half an hour North of Salta, to help celebrate. We found ourselves part of a big party consisting of about 20 people including several children, and the whole day was conducted in a mix of English and Spanish. It was great fun.
(Evil) Kat had been out earlier in the day to select and slaughter a turkey. We're sure she enjoyed it as she was very keen to show off her photos of the massacre!!!! Asked to bring a contribution, Russ cooked up an enormous vegetable curry, did you expect anything else?
There were so many people there that we can't remember all of their names! Peter and Nancy were wonderful hosts and it was fabulous to meet everyone there. We also got a lot of good Spanish conversation practice. The house is in a very quiet and exceptionally beautiful area and we'd
Kat the pie-maker
Apple pie from her Grandmother's recipe, delicious! love to go back there again.
The day consisted of eating lots, then eating more, then finishing with some pumpkin pie, brownies and apple pie. We could not have managed another morsel of food by the end of the day, and not a thing passed our lips until the following morning's breakfast. We don't think we have ever felt so stuffed in our lives. Apparently that is the sign of a good Thanksgiving!!
So, our first Thanksgiving was a great success. Thanks Kat, for the invite, and thanks to everyone for making it a special day.
