Having recovered from the 22 hour bus from BA, spent the first day looking around Bariloche as due to low cloud and what felt like bitterly cold weather there wasn´t much else to do.
Bariloche is a strange place as the whole area consists of Swiss style shalet building, and is very much geared for summer tourism and the winter ski season.
On Wednesday the weather cleared and it became apparent what a beautiful place this is, with the mountains and forests that surround lake Nahuel Huapi.
Took a ski lift up Cerro (Mount) Campanario for some great panoramic views of Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi in which Bariloche is situated. The light wasn´t brilliant, but the afternoon made up for that when we hiked up Cerro Otto. The hike was 14kms, which I found pretty hard going, I sometimes think Gary forgets he is 5 years younger and a lot fitter than I am, but I have to get into shape for Macchu Pichu in July.
Otto is a ski resort in the winter (about a months time) and from the top we had the most magnificant views of Cerro Catedral and the mountain range which runs along the Chilean border

(technically still part of The Andes). There was a cable car for 30 pesos, but some how the having hiked it the experience seemed more rewarding.
Yesterday was low cloud again, but this gave me a chance to recover from the hike. Went to one of the many chocolate shops in Bariloche called Fenoglio and had quarter of a kilo of the best tasting ice cream for 6 pesos.... this place really has a Swiss feel, though I´d imagine things are a lot cheaper here! The evening ended in a locals bar, trying to avoid the tourist haunts wherever possible, and was treated to some excellent live guitar performances in true Latin American style.... a few litres of Quilmes and half a litre of wine made things all the more enjoyable!
Saturday left Barriloche and moved onto San Martin De Los Andes, also in the Lake District. Being a ski resort out of season there wasn´t much going on, but visited a Mapuche Indian reservation for a view of Lago Lacar at sunset.... Sadly plumitting temperatures and bad weather forecasted means we won´t get any further into Patagonia on this trip, so its time to head North..... I have a
