Howdy ya´ll
Sorry its been so long...but last post I promised photos...and I havent been able to find a place that will let me upload photos....they must think im a pornstar or something of the like....
Speaking of which, I learnt a new important word...apparently an orgy is ä¨Kilombo¨ and no...its not something ive learnt from experience.
So after Buenos Aires I made my way to Bariloche. 20 hours on the bus never went so fast. I had a chair that went back 180 degrees.....I listened to my ipod for 5 hours...watched a movie...and fell asleep...and woke up just as we were arriving in Bariloche.
Let me just say that the south of argentina so far is absolutely amazing...and ill be very suprised if anything quite like it exists anywhere in the world.
Ive taken a few happy snaps.....I have alot more coming because Ive made many friends and they will all send me pictures....
So I spent 4 days in Bariloche...did some excursions...one day went out mountain biking and kayaking....spent alot of time other days just sitting at the lake...they have massive beautiful lakes with clear water surrounded by massive mountains. The sun doesnt
go down til 11pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its absolutely crazy....I took my watch off and now I never have an idea what time it is....
I then headed down to El Bolson. Its supposed to be the byron bay of argentina....and...it pretty much is...although I think the people here are less medicated than in byron bay...which is a good thing.
Anyway, I arrived in this hippie town after a 20 hour bus ride...refreshed and ready to start my day (with my 20KG backpack).
There didnt seem to be any taxis on the street....so I found a map...with a very vague indication of where my hostel was.....so I decided to walk, as it was a nice day (scorching heat). Anyway....I walked about an hour and a half...and finally found something called a Subida (this means, to rise in spanish)....
So I started walking up this dirt track, a hill which would scare any long distance runner.....lucky my mum had convinced me to take a trolly with me to put my bag on...otherwise I think i´d either be without a back, or without clothes....
Anyway I walked up this thing for about 20 or 30 minutes.....with my skin burning because
of cause I forgot to bring sunscreen.....and then I had a thought.....the name of the hostel is (Alto Del Sur)...which means, high of the south....
At that point I realised why....so I walked about 30 minutes up this hill with my 20kg backpack, when suddenly the path was consumed with 4 MASSIVE dogs....wild as hell. I think the dogs here in this particular part of town know their purpose in life....to serve and protect the place in which they live.....
Im not sure what I did, but they decided to run at me....so I ran off with my backpack....they were catching up...but as I left their territory they stopped. At that moment some guy came up this hill with his car...he must have lived just past the dogs...and I explained my predicament to him...luckily he was willing to help....although he must have thought I was the biggest panzy foreigner he´s ever met...so he dropped me off just after the dogs. I walked another 20 minutes and found the place.
It seems to me that hard work is always rewarded....the hostel is ABSOLUTELY amazing. The most tranquil thing you have ever seen. Its high up in the mountains....a
large cabin (as you can see in the photos). The people that work here are really nice. I made some really good friends.
I originally only had 2 nights booked, and as soon as I arrived I changed it to 4 nights. Tonight is my 8th night and I leave here in 2 days.
All the people that stay here are from argentina, so ive only been speaking spanish for 8 days...which is really good because ive learnt alot...and all I recieve is complements about my spanish. People cant believe how fast ive learnt. Ive met people who have lived here for 6 months and I speak double what they do....which im very proud of!!!
Ive bought a whole bunch of hippie clothes as you can probably see....its perfect for the weather.
Anyway...my next destination..Puerto Montt (Chile!). I havent been able to find any cheap accomodation there...and there doesnt seem to be any way to call them from this town....so I might need to fork out a few extra dollars for a night there...and then try and find somewhere in the morning.
On the 11th Im going on a boat cruise...4 days and 3 nights
from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales (more south). Basically its a cruise through the icecaps and the south....islands, mountains, penguins (I hope)....
Anyway...send me messages and emails and Ill get back to ya´ll.
Hope things are going well in Australia....hope Kevin Rudd is doing a good job.......there must be another big brother by now?
Chau Ya´ll
