Caviahue--Winter Wonderland Dog sledding, hiking up to the rim of a volcano and peering into its sulfur lake, and taking a mud bath--all in my first day in tiny Caviahue. For six weeks, I snow-shoed and hiked to waterfalls, lakes and over mountains for hours with ethereal silence and no one else in sight. No need to catch a bus or pay for an excursion to hike in the mountains--I just walked out t... Read Full Entry

Thanks, Nancy!
I'm so glad you and Patrick are enjoying my adventures--I was really cut out for the open road. I read you've already had snow in your Maine paradise--how wonderful. I'm so in love with snow, I may move to the mountains upon my return. Lots of love, Tara

good to hear from you!
Hey John, good to hear from you. I thought it got pretty nippy in your mountains, no? Well, I may not stay in SB when I return--I'm totally enamored by the snow. Don't know Will, but sounds like someone I'd enjoy. Hope all's well with you!

Hi Tara
Hello Tara, I love your writing and photos. What a wonderful advanture you are having and thanks for sharing your stories. I didn't think you were such a snow bunny, but anywhere in nature offers so many wonders that I could see you enjoying it all. And the peace and quiet must appeal to your spiritual side. Interesting to see the photos of the Araucaria trees. We have a few different species of them growing in Santa Barbara, as you probably know (one is the Araucaria bidwillii tree (bunya-bunya pine)). Be well, dear friend. Love, Lydia

norfolk pines too
I'm so glad you're enjoying my blog. I guess when I visited E. Europe and Krakow in particular, I fell in love with the peace and beauty of snow. I didn't know about the araucaria you mentioned, but I know we have norfolk pines (also an araucaria) at the Music Academy and Lotusland. I'll have to hunt all these out when I return. Happy autumn!

A SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE
Your writings and photographs reflect to me a spiritual experience of the magic of Patagonia...keep them coming...yes...you have a gift...continue to embrace it.

Great blog!
\'\'I\'d love to help ban plastic bags and encourage folks to buy reusable ones that perhaps the local Mapuche could produce. \'\' At least, I am not the only one who suggests banning plastic bags, if there isn\'t a good recycling facility nearby for them. I was horrified, when I was in Sumatra last August, at the amount of plastic and other garbage being thown in the jungle.

Well, Gladys, I didn't even really know snow before, but now I'm hooked. You'll probably feel more at home when I hit the Caribbean in a couple of years. Happy travels!

I am glad...
So happy you enjoyed my country. Great pictures. Hugs from Tandil, at about 400 km from Buenos Aires. Graciela.

Thanks, Graciela!
In over 2 years of traveling, my 2 favorite places were in Argentina and had populations of 500--Caviahue and El Chalten. I hope you get to visit them. Now, I'll be exploring northern Argentina. I love your country!
