Welcome everyone

This time we plan to enthral all of you with the tales of our adventures in Mendoza which as you may know is the wine capital of Argentina. Being the wine enthusiasts that we are- we felt that this was the region on Argentina for us....

Our drinking adventures started with a ¨bikes and wine¨ tour. Basically this works by hiring a bike where the guys who give you the bike give you a map and point you down the road and the tour starts.
You spend the day riding from winery to winery and tasting there wines. Suffice to say, that by the end of the day your riding technique can become quite interesting. The 1st stop was a wine mueseum where they give you wine- it was the best muesum ever and should be a model for mueseums around the world. The next stop was a spirit factory where the produce all kinds of spirits and of course you get to try them. Then you ride your bike. The spirit factory produces a tabasco and cognac drink. This took Peters fancy and despite numerous people telling him not to try it- he did and to

This was taken at the last winery that was visited on that day. You may notice that we are leaning on the wall behind us.....
everyones suprise it was pretty good as far as tabasco and cognac drinks go.

As the day went on the wineries got further and further apart or perhaps it was the fact that the rest stops at each winery where getting longer and longer in any event the whole day was great and a really differerent if not slightly wobbily way to do a wine tour. In case you were wondering they went throught the whole wine production process so we are now both experts in wine production.

While we were in Mendoza we were chatting to the guy in our hostel and he told us he was taking a tour the next day which went all over the place and was really worthwhile so following his recommendation we joined the tour.
The day was really good and we went to all sorts of places around Mendoza including Usplatta a town which was the setting for 7 years in tibet with Brad Pitt, The foothills of Aconcagua the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere at 6959 meters however it keeps growing so some of the signs need to be replaced. We also went to Alto Montana a

The scenery here was just weird. These mountains were all amazingly high, yet as this region was on the western side of the andes mountain range- it received very little rain as all the rain fell when the air first became cold on the Eastern side. Thus producing a very harsh environment- as you can see
mountain near Aconcagua at about 3800 meters and we did feel the altitiude a bit with a slight headache and general tiredness but nothing to severe. It is really hard to describe most of the scenery and as usual hopefully the photos show 50% of what was there but the whole place was amazing and the andes make any photo look pretty good.

Any way thats all for now so take care and let us know what your up to.

We caught a ski lift up this mountain so that we could look at the views. In the valley you can see an abandoned ski lodge (as it was not snow season).

This photo shows the next mountain from where we were. As you can see there was snow at this level. After taking this picture we both had to sit down as the altitude took its toll on both of us!

This was a statue of Jeasus that was on top of the mountain. Excuse our lack of photography skills but we were too busy feeling faint to pay attention to what we were photographing. In the background you can see the Chilian flag as technically this marked the border with Argentina.

Argentinian buses are awesome!!!!! It is like travelling first class in a plane- you even get given food and drinks on board. This photo shows a cama seat (which is 2nd class). In semi cama (bottom class) the seats are still really comfy and very easy to sleep on. In first class the seats fold back to 180 degrees. Luxury....
