english tower
supposed to look like big ben! Go back and check out the entries for Ollantaytambo, Uruguay and Cuzco as we have now added photos!
Ok so it doesn´t really seem like we´ve actually done very much since we came back from Uruguay, highlight was definately the skydive! We moved hostel and this new one seems a bit more homely, nice to have a few less people than the milhouse, this one might have a few too little though!
Our room here is lovely though, we´ve both chosen bottom bunks so its nice not to have to climb up or worry about falling out! Again there are no ladders at all so would be interesting trying to get in and out in the middle of the night! Only disadvantage of this hostel really is there is not kitchen so we have to eat out. Its not that bad though as we get to go out and eat beautiful steak and things for cheap in comparison to England! We can eat at a really posh place here, have the best steak and it still works out at about a fiver! Suppose we should look on the brightside and look at the exercise were getting but our room is
on the top floor, two flights of stairs up from the common room, which is one floor up from the street! We´ve done quite a bit of shopping here, or wandering in and looking at things as we dont seem to have the space to fit anything more in! A lot of things actually dont seem to be cheaper, but some clothes are. Cds are also cheaper over here especially english versions of albums of spanish artists like Shakira. We went to go and look at an english tower which is listed in the guide book. It says it looks like big ben and you get a beautiful, free view from the top. It actually looks nothing like big ben, and it shut so you cant go up! Not sure the view would have been that great as most of the surrounding buildings nearby are quite tall, and the tower seems smaller than them! We´ve also been to see the Obelisco, which is a pillar in the middle of the biggest roads in the city.
We went to find the teatre colon which is suppose to be lovely, but again was shut so didn´t get to see inside, outside looks
nice though!!! There was a nice park outside it to. We then went to an irish bar we had been recommended to go to as they give out free drinks. Girls are suppose to drink free all day and boys have a happy hour between 3 and 8 when drinks are cheap! We went and had pizza and when you order a lunch you get unlimited free beer anyway! We shared a pizza and had two beers and gin and tonics (heath wont drink beer) and it only cost 10 pesos!!! (6 to the pound!) was a nice place anyway!
We met up with Katie again last night who is a girl who we were on our trip with. She is staying in Buenos Aires for a few months while she is learning spanish. We have tried to meet up but things kept happening to prevent it! We met her at our hostel and got a taxi to a restaurant she had been to before. Most of the taxi drivers kept ignoring us, we finally got in one and he said he knew where the place was, but when we got to San Telmo he couldn´t find it! He
did stop the meter and ask someone, then took us to it which was nice. The restaurant was really busy, quite full of locals as well as a few tourists. Its a Parrilla which is a bbq restaurant where all the meat is cooked on a big grill in the front. We were greeted by the waiter who was one of the biggest men i´ve seen!!! He took our order and didn´t write any of it down. Katie said she´s never seen him write it down even when its a group of 15 or so and he remembers it all and serves the stuff to the correct person! Much better than most of the waiters we´ve had! Me and Heath split a steak and a sausage which were both lovely! We went for the mash thinking it would be much better for us than chips but it had so much butter in it im not sure it was!!! and we split a bottle of wine between us, was all delicious anyway!! We then went on the bar we had gone to before (shoeless joes). Drinks weren´t free after 10, but they were still ridiculously cheap! We had a few there
before we said our goodbyes and left Katie!!
Cant believe we leave in a few hours! Feel like the whole time away has gone so fast, but it feels like it was ages ago we were in Brazil!!!
Will hopefully get to catch up with you all before too long! When we get the photos we are missing from the rest of our tour group we will add them in and let you know to go back and check them out!
