Well, I promised I'd post more often, so here I go...Thursday night I went with some kids from class to a boliche called Lost, in Palermo (I think), that plays hip hop until about 4am on Thurs. Some of the kids had gone last week and said it was worth the trip. I shared a taxi with a kid from my class and we met some others at a friend's apartment. Around 1:30am we left the apt. and grabbed a taxi to the place. It was definitely worth the trip and the lack of sleep. It felt like home, but not really, haha. The music was typical club music, but nothing any newer than 3-6 months ago. There were dudes with jerseys on (which you don't see here in the streets really, only futbol jerseys) and their hair in rows. Girls in b-girl type outfits pop-lockin and stuff. There more black people in the club than I have seen in a week (which isn't sayin much, since I have probably only seen 3 all week in the streets). There were LOTS of people from my class and other U.S. students there. It seemed to me that we were kinda leadin the
pack. We were dancin how we do in the states, and it of course just came naturally. The only problem with the place is that it was sooooooo hot. I kid you not, by the time I left the place, I looked like I had taken a shower in my clothes. They were TOTALLY soaked through. It was disgusting. The only good thing about going to the clubs here is that you get a workout, and by the time you leave you've worked off all the drinks you just had. I will definitely be back in that club soon.
I of course had class on Friday, so I only got like 2.5 hours of sleep Thursday night. Since practically my entire class had been at the club the night before class on Friday was interesting to say the least. Probably a third of the kids were still intoxicated, and the rest of us were so tired we might as well have been. It was actually a fun class, but I probably would have rather been sleeping. After class Friday I came home and took a nap for a few more hours, which was much needed at that point. I
Zoo de Lujan
Yes, that is one of the same lions I was just petting! had to get up at 7pm to get ready for dinner at the Moldavsky's house that night. (The friend's of Claus' coworker) Horacio, the father, picked me up at 8pm and we drove back to his house about 15 minutes away. He lives in a beautiful home! Large, but not at all pretentious. We had a nice dinner, with Horacio, his wife, his daughter, his son and his son's girlfriend. The conversation moved back and forth between Castellano and English, but it was mostly in English. The dinner was wonderful, and I really enjoyed the visit. They are a really nice family, and I am glad to have them as contacts and new friends. Before I left the son and his girlfriend asked me if I wanted to go to to a party with them on Saturday night. I went, it wasn't great, but it was a good opportunity to listen to Spanish for 5 hours straight.
During the day on Saturday, I went with kids from my program to a zoo in a town about an hour outside of BsAs. It is a city called Lujon. The city is famous because it is a pilgrimage site. Well, not
the city itself, but a basilica there. (See pic) The zoo is a unique one because they allow people into the cages with some of the animals. I went into cages with medium sized lions, baby lions and a grown tiger. The tiger was asleep, but it was pretty amazing just to touch it, and feel it breathing and all its muscles. (See pics) I would have loved to play with them, and spend a lot more time with them, but they were pretty protective over what we could do to/with them. Which makes perfect sense of course, for safety reasons. Anyway, overall it was a good experience to have had.
Sunday I did absolutely nothing worth mentioning, it was a chill day for me. More later this week...
Oh...and I really hope you all appreciate and enjoy the pics, because they take a long ass time to organize and load.
