Well, in the last 24 hours we haven´t stopped walking and it hasn´t stopped raining. Oh well, we came prepared with umbrellas. Last night, Arkady came and met us at the hotel. He took us for a walk down the Rio de la Plata which is BA´s equivalent of the East River. Mucky and brown. But they have a much more modern version of the Brooklyn Bridge. Designed by Santiago Calatrava (J & G, remember we saw his exhibit at the Met last year?). After walking around, we went and got a quick bite to eat then made our way to Palermo, the trendy part of town. What did we do here? Grabbed another bit to eat of course. In BA the locals eat very late and sit for hours so we grabbed a table outside under a very dry overhang and watched the rain come down while sampling appetizer after appetizer. We also got to try our very first piece of Argentinean beef. Bife de Chorizo, sirloin steak, and it was just as good as they said it was going to be! After dinner we went to a local bar and had a drink then headed home to promptly
Dinner
Claudia enjoying Bife de Chorizo at dinner on Thursday. sleep for the next 10 or so hours.
This morning we walked what seemed like miles in the pouring rain the La Recoleta, which is the really nice, fancy part of town. Grabbed a cup of cafe con leche and planned our day. The big tourist spot here is the Recoleta Cemetary, and for good reason. It´s where all the rich and famous of BA are buried and it´s pretty incredible. Rows and rows of beautiful mausoleums, including one for their beloved Eva Peron. After that we headed back to Palermo and shopped till we dropped. All the people here are teeny tiny, they don´t really make clothes for hearty people like ourselves, but we were able to find a few things.
A quick nap and a shower and we have dinner reservations for tonight then we´ll probably meet up with Arkady again and his friends.
We´re looking forward to a dry day tomorrow.
