Tango in San Telmo
One of BA's most lively street markets Covering 206 days, 11 countries, 3 continents, passing through deserts, oceans, forests, mountains, towns and cities via planes, buses, bikes, cars and our poor little legs we´ve finally reached the end of our trip! It feels like yesterday we left but an age since we were in the UK (make any sense to you?!) All we´ve got now is a wee plane ride home.
We´ve spent the last few days enjoying the impressive Buenos Aires; with a little shopping, some grilled meat (mostly steak of course), and a fair amount of wine! We had our first real "parrilla" (mixed grill), which was spent mostly trying to avoid the stomach and intestines on the plate and focus on the "real" meat. I also had the pleasure of commiserating reaching the grand age of 27 on Saturday with a nice accompaniment of red wine and a visit to a jazz club. The jazz was averagely sung by one of the thousands of Argentines who appear to be pregnant. We´ve seen a lot of bumps on our trip round Argentina (must be something in the water?!) and they certainly aren´t hard to spot - BHS Maternity wear wouldn´t sell well here! Most woman
Rosedal Bridge
In one of BA's many parks seem content to cram themselves into their pre-pregnancy wear - which mostly covers very little (the bare bump is obviously very fashionable)! Anyway, we spent the last 2 days walking around some of the nice markets and parks of Buenos Aires in the very pleasant 28-30C sunshine - desperately trying to avoid thoughts of a dark cold winter that awaits us. Tonight we finished off with a trip to a Tango show (a very popular BA attraction). An impressive show, with the only offputting thing being that the male dancer looked like Barry from Eastenders!
And that all takes us to the end of our travel blogs (well for the time being at least!!). We´ve had an absoluely fab time and will take with us a bucket load of memories (and god knows how many photos) of the trip. We both hope the novelty of coming home won´t wear off too quick and the desire to be on the move again doesn´t come on too strong. It´s given us a great appreciation of what´s out there (unfortunately our list of places to see is now longer than when we left!!??) and also of what we have at home!
Thank you to all who´ve read and hopefully enjoyed our blogs, we´ve enjoyed writing them. We thought we´d leave you with a few thoughts of our travels:
Things we´ll miss:
• Cheap beer and wine (that had to come first)
• Doing and seeing some truly amazing things
• Cheap clothes, cheap accommodation.... in fact cheap everything
• Not knowing what we´re doing one day to the next
• Not caring that it´s Monday morning!
• Meeting some great people, both travellers and locals
• Travelling the world (need we say more)
Things we won´t miss:
• 20 hour bus journeys
• Squat toilets
• Your wardrobe = rucksack
• Most of said wardrobe covered in holes or stains
• Mosquitoes.. cockroaches
• Needing toilet paper with you at all times
• Having to put the damn toilet paper in silly little bins!
• Having the feeling everyone is trying to rip you off
• Bargaining for everything!
• Hawkers ("mister mister.. motorbike?")
Things to remember:
• "You can do that cheaper" doesn´t work in Tescos
• Conversations with relative strangers about bowel movements is frowned upon
• What day of the week it
is
• Changing your underwear every day is more hygienic (ok that applies more to me than Sarah)
• You can drink tap water
• Going to the pub may require re-mortgaging
We also thought we´d let you in on our collective skill for losing things:
• 1 Alarm Clock (j)
• 1 Rucksack Raincover (j)
• 2 Travel Pillows (j&s)
• 2 T Shirts (j&s)
• 1 Sunhat (s)
• 2 Sunglasses (j&s)
• $20 (although Sarah reckons it was "stolen")
• 2 Headbands (s)
• 2 Pairs of earings (s)
• 1 Jumper (s)
• 2 Suncreams (j)
• 1 Mosquito repellent (j)
• 1 Bandana (j)
Good list and I think Sarah did a good job in competing with my amazing ability to misplace things - well at least i didn't lose my passport this time (well not yet anyway!)
Thanks for joining us and hope to see at least some of you very soon!
