Tree-lined, wide streets

Most of the roads in Mendoza (city centre, at least) look just like this - wide, and shaded. Streets were deliberately built wide when the city rebuilt, after a major earthquake, in the 1800s to allow for evacuation in the event of another. Streets are also defined by the metre-deep gutters, carrying snow melt from the nearby Andes for drainage and irrigation purposes.
El Parque General San Martín (Mendoza)

Back in Mendoza for the afternoon, we rented bikes and rode all around El Parque General San Martín, an enormous park on the western end of Mendoza, just on the edge of the Andes.
