Located in Lower Town since 1826, and named for Colonel John By, who oversaw the construction of the Rideau Canal, the Market, as it is usually known, is near to Parliament Hill and the seats of power. Far from being stuffy and bureaucratic, though, it is Ottawa's most interesting, dynamic, and variety-packed neighbourhood.
