Regensburg
Hey I have been there. Do you know that it is a twinned city with Aberdeen, Scotland. I did a bilateral youth exchange with another you Youth Group. I loved it as well and couldnt understand why it was twinned with Aberdeen when they don't look alike. So the reason is....... back in the day the monks would pilgrimage with each other between the cities. Why did Regensburg become so wealthy and important that they stopped paying taxes to the King unlike other Baronies - they built the bridge and that created the only crossing for a very long way which attracted commerce and became very wealthy. Even Alexander the Great passed through here. Also a major place for salt trade - where we get the saying, 'are they worth their salt'. It used to be used as currency for paying wages it was so sort after.... so besides an amazing bird show in a castle nearby and canoeing one of their rivers, I don't have much more to add except like you I loved this medieval place.
