The house was built on the ruins of the Royal Santa Clara of Jesus Convent

which was founded around 1606 under the patronage of Don Diego de Tapia who was a descendant of Conin the founder of the city of Queretaro. It was built for the sole purpose of housing his nun daughter Doña María Luisa Tapia. Construction was completed in 1633.
