SAND CREEK ESCAPE ROUTE

Those who survived the slaughter scampered off up the valley to the north, then collected themselves and joined a village of more warlike Dog Soldiers camped over on the Smoky Hill River. Early in 1865 they attacked the town of Julesburg and burnt it to the ground in retribution.

AUGUST 24, 2014 I finally made it down to Wagon Bed Spring this morning after getting lost twice. I missed the turn onto Hwy 56 out of Dodge City but quickly realized I was going wrong and turned around. When I got to Ulysses the damn highway was closed for repairs and I had to find a detour.
