As soon as we entered Turkey we had snow-topped and tree-covered mountains as our driving scenery. After driving along the Mediteranean coast for a while we headed north to Cappadocia. Despite the cold we were all intrigued by the bizarre and beautiful volcanic rock formations. Nicknamed fairy chimneys by the locals, houses and churches have been built into these weird structures.
