Can you see that there's a road

between us and the long, loud coal train? Anyone going east or west travels that road....fast. And there's a mountain in front and behind us. This is a very loud place to live! What this picture doesn't show is that our front wheels are five inches off the ground. No, that doesn't improve stability!!

love the travelogue
It is so interesting to learn about the country through your eyes. I love your spin on everything. Your honest remarks and reflections on things kind of remind me of life in my classroom. What a crew this year! We were all talking about switching rooms for a day...just for fun. No one wants my room!

poverty
I agree with you that you are in one of the poorest parts of the country. I don't think anyone would believe how poor unless they saw it for themselves. Just last year there was a special about how many people (including small children) in that area are without teeth because they drink mountain dew instead of milk and have such a poor diet. Add to that smoking at an early age and the future of working in a mine and you can see why people in that area don't live to be very old. It is a very sad place to experience.
