Built in 1880, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad was part of the San Juan extension of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroads, with tracks running from Denver through the ore-rich Rocky Mountains to Silverton, Colorado and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
