Lilac-breasted roller

These are one of the most iconic and beautiful birds around here. This one is a bit scruffy looking (they're all scruffy right now) but you can see how lovely they are, sky blue and lilac and white all over. Despite their pretty plumage, they have rather unattractive squawks. Can't win on everything.

a good weekend

Hiking en masse Janet had the brilliant idea of actually taking a hike on the weekend. The only “mountain” is Mu Kenya, a rocky ridgeback that juts out suddenly from the flat savannah.
