We walked out into the water in the early evening and saw large squid and rays hunting in the shallows. Very cool!

June 12th 2006 Heron Island, Queensland, Great Barrier Reef: Two days ago, we had a nice flight from Cairns to Brisbane. We picked up a rental car and then drove north on the M1/A1 Bruce Highway to Gladstone. Not only was this a very long drive of about 7 hrs at 100 kmph but most of it was on 2-lane highway in pouring rain with lots of hydroplaning.
