Ancient, crumbling monuments are the draw for tourists here and in it's heyday the sunlight reflecting of the gilt decorations on the temples was said to dazzle from three miles away . We hopped on the train up from Bangkok - third class with no air con, just a fan, proved to be a hot, sticky option but for a journey of just two hours we had decided to get on with it and save a good few baht.
