The drive from Queenstown to Christchurch was stunning. We passed through wide bleached grass plains banked by snowy topped mountains. The glacial waters in the lakes and streams were an incredible shade of turquoise. We stopped for a picnic lunch at such a lake with Mount Cook looming in the background.
